EMMA MAERSK
Emma Maersk, the world’s largest container vessel at 11000 TEU capacity, made her maiden voyage to Hong Kong on 15 th October 2006.
She was berthed at Kwai Chung by two 4000 BHP harbour tugs from HUD Marine, and unberthed a mere 18 hours later. The operation proceeded without a hitch, proving that Hong Kong is well prepared for the next generation of large container vessels.
. When she was launched, Emma Mærsk became the largest container ship ever built, and as of 2007 the longest ship in use ever built . Officially, Emma Mærsk is able to carry around 11,000 TEU in the calculation of the Mærsk company which is about 1,400 more containers than any other ship is capable of carrying.
