At the end of the Chairman’s report, Vikrant Malhotra FNI proposed a vote of thanks for Aalok’s excellent leadership, not least his successful efforts to revitalise the branch after the extended COVID lock-down. This motion was carried by acclaim.
Our Hon. Treasurer, Petty Leung FNI, was overseas, but it was reported that the branch is in a good financial position. The lack of in-person events during COVID reduced our normal expenditure, so we have sufficient funds to carry us through this year and to make our traditional donations to our chosen charities.
Long-serving committee member Alan Loynd FNI had expressed a desire to step down, so it was proposed that he join Luca Ferrerio and Pradeep Chawla as a permanent advisor to the branch committee, which was passed by those present.
Three nominations had been received for new committee members:
Kannan Shekkappan of Alfa Laval (China)
Carmen Chan of Marine Department (and HK’s first female Master Mariner)
Vikrant Malhotra of Anglo Eastern
All three were elected unopposed.
Turning to office bearers, Aalok was standing down at the end of his term of office and Kaushik Roy FNI was unanimously elected to replace him. Rocky Siu Lok Kan AFNI was elected Vice Chairman, and John Yu was elected Hon. Secretary.
After a brief question and answer session, Aalok Sharma formally handed the badge of office to Kaushik Roy, and the meeting closed at 1905. Members then enjoyed a convivial gathering to enjoy the food and drink provided.
